A Closer Look Continued

The operating system on the DROID is Google's Android 2.0. After the phone has been activated you will be able to use the operating system. A few quick setup steps later and you are rocking and rolling right along. Pressing the power button momentarily shuts the screen off and locks the phone, pressing it once again and you are presented with the screen in the 1st picture below. Just take your finger and slide the green lock to the right to unlock the phone and go to the desktop, similar to the second picture.

Many applications are installed by default as well. Just grab or tap the tab at the bottom of the screen to access them. If you want to add an application to the desktop, just put your finger over it and hold until the phone vibrates. The notification tab is at the top, again just grab and slide down to bring the full notification menu down, such as picture number 3. The settings menu is picture number 4 in this series and there are numerous options to set up and customize the DROID. The nice thing about the DROID is it is easy to set up and customize.

I just want to drop a quick note on the market place, or app store for Android. During my testing, I completely switched to the DROID. This meant that I needed to have access to MS Office documents as well as PDFs, etc. With no trouble, I was able to find an app that allowed me to do what I needed to, as well as some others that I found for strictly entertainment purposes. While the marketplace may not be as big as Apples app store for the iPhone, it is quickly gaining momentum.

Time to wrap things up
