The way in which people use their cell phones today has drastically changed, when compared to just five years ago. During that time it was not uncommon to see power users have a cell phone, PDA, and a laptop all running at the same time while they were out on the move. Also during that time the wearable computer was trying to gain ground. Eventually, as with technology, eventually technology caught up to what the users need/want.

Today’s cell phones are more than just crude devices that enable you to communicate verbally while on the go. The cell phone of today should be considered a true DA or PIM, whatever label you want to call it.. Most smartphones, if not all can check email, text message, keep track of appointments, take notes, play music, etc. all in a package that fits neatly into most pockets. I feel that I am a heavy user of cell phones, keeping track of 5 email accounts, being able to manage a help desk application, texting and calling roughly 50ish contacts a day not to mention keeping track of my appointments, I need a phone that can keep up with me. For the last few years, I have swapped between blackberries and Windows Mobile phones and they have worked ok, but there are some "issues" with them that one learns to deal with. For example, about once a week I would have to reboot the phone in order to get the phone to keep track of my incoming, outgoing, and missed calls; as time passed eventually the call log would just disappear. However, I am not here to point out the flaws in those phones. The iPhone has set the standard in which all other smartphones are judged and while there have been many releases labeled as iPhone killers, none, not even one has managed to put a chink in the armor of Apples mighty beast, until now.

In the latter part of 2009, Motorola teamed up with Google and Verizon to bring out the Droid. The Droid is exclusive to the Verizon network and runs Google’s Android 2.0 operating system. Android is new to the cell phone industry, just being released over the last couple of years and already in rev. 2.0. So let us look at the newest smart phone released on the market, and while it has been billed as an iPhone killer, I think it may be a little too early to call that one, but it is certainly a tremendous smart phone.
