Personal media viewers are not "new" so to speak but historically they have been bulky and honestly not very attractive looking. They have also been a mainstay in science fiction and as life imitates art, so it seems is life imitating science fiction.

In 1995 Myvu entered the scene as a The MicroOpical Corporation as a R&D Contractor for the Department of Defense. During that time they developed such technologies as the wearable computer displays and integrated eyeglass displays which not only have significant military value but value also in the health care industry. These developing technologies lead to the development of what Myve calls SolidOptex® which is the driving force behind their products today. Six years later, Myvu started to focus on consumer level products as mobile video was emerging in the cell phone market. In 2005 Myvu released the first consumer level personal video viewer: The Solo.

In 2008 they released the Myvu Crystal and that is what we have on the bench today. Ilounge named the Myvu Crystal 701 as the Best in Show Finalist at MacWorld 2008.

"Myvu Corporation is the leading supplier of eyewear viewers for the portable electronics industry. Medical and military applications served as the company's fundamental technology drivers, which provided the discipline for quality, adjustment, safety and usability that have culminated in Myvu's consumer products. Today, this technology is integrated in, or mounted to, sunglasses, eyeglasses and safety eyewear. Myvu's personal media viewers and eyewear products, which are readable in all lighting conditions, are the smallest, lightest and most durable eyewear displays available today. They have received widespread acclaim in major media outlets including Wall Street Journal, Popular Science, New York Times, TIME and iLounge. Weighing about one ounce, Myvu's patented SolidOptex® optical technology provides the most ergonomically designed viewer with attention to style and fit that meets stringent eye safety requirements. This unique optical system allows the user to maintain natural vision and awareness of the environment in all lighting conditions. A strategic alliance with worldwide leader Essilor International adds ophthalmic correction to the Myvu product line and delivers images through true ophthalmic eyewear products."
