Eagle Tech ET-CSMDSU2-BK 3.5” SATA to USB Multitasking Dual Bay Hard Drive Enclosure

For quite some time USB drive enclosures have been available, and come in most shapes and sizes imaginable but the none offer the ability to house two hard drives simultaneously nor offer the ability to hot swap each of the drives. This affords the user the opportunity to make quick copies from either of the drives in the enclosure or from the hard drive in the PC. This enclosure is all about multitasking, saving valuable time, and space.

Eagle Tech presents the ET-CSMDSU2-BK 3.5" SATA to USB dual drive enclosure. As the name implies this is a SATA to USB enclosure featuring two separate drive bays. The unit can be configured to handle the each drive individually or the drives can be set up as JOBD (just a bunch of disks). Lacking the eSATA port, can the ET-CSMDSU2-BK 3.5" drive enclosure stand up to the demands of daily use or will it just fall flat on it's face and just become more desk clutter? Read on to find out.

Hard drive enclosures have come a long way from the early models. Early models were clunky lumps of metal or plastic that we not very easy on the eyes. My how things have changed. Enclosures today are, in a word. sexy. Manufactures have taken the fact that some computer users want an attractive piece of hardware sitting on their desk not just a plastic or metal box.

Eagle Tech Computers, Inc. is all about bringing style along with functionality to storage enclosures. Eagle Tech has quite a few hard drive enclosures in their inventory. They sent us out the ET-CSTESU2-BK to review. Eagle Tech Computers is a new sponsor for us and we are proud to have them on board.

With the ET-CSTESU2-BK, they have taken the aesthetics aspect even further by adding a dimly glowing blue LED to the base of the ET-CSTESU2-BK hard drive enclosure. How often do you upgrade your hard drive? Various reasons lead users to upgrade, either it's lack of space or upgrading to a fast hard drive. But what do you do with your old hard drives? Throw them out? Leave them sitting on the desk collecting dust? How about actually using it? There have been some pretty hokey solutions for converting an internal hard drive to an external one and there have been some good solutions, but not many allow you to swap the hard drive out on the fly.

Enter ThermalTakes BlacX. The BlacX is a hard drive dock that allows you to hot swap either a 2.5" or 3.5" SATA drive and it can function as either eSATA or USB 2.0. Just in the process of writing this review I have found new uses for my old SATA drives. Some are used for storing files that I haven't used in a while but I want to keep around while others are used for media, such as movies or music, and some for pictures. You can use it for what ever you wish. So those users with that extra storage capacity just doing nothing should take a close look. Sounds pretty promising right?
